Mr. Flynn has been licensed to practice law in Michigan since 1989. He is a general practitioner concentrating in the areas of divorce and family law, criminal law, and probate litigation. Mr. Flynn is among the first attorneys in Michigan to complete the Family Law Certificate Program offered by the Institute for Continuing Legal Education in Ann Arbor, MI.

Flynn is approved to defend Major Felonies by the Oakland County Circuit Court Administrator. He represents his clients in jury trials across Michigan. He served as defense counsel for the 52/2nd District’s Sobriety Court in Clarkston, MI from it’s inception in 2004, until January 2009. Mr. Flynn is also a Special Assistant Attorney General to the Michigan Department of the Attorney General. |
Mr. Flynn was appointed in 2003 by the Attorney General to serve Oakland County as a Public Administrator. His service as a Public Administrator in more than 50 cases has provided extensive experience in probate litigation and a wide range of elder law issues. As a professional fiduciary, he serves as a guardian, conservator, personal representative, and trustee for a variety of incapacitated individuals, estates and trusts. |
In addition to his trial work, Mr. Flynn maintains an appellate practice, appearing in the Michigan Supreme Court, Michigan Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Mr. Flynn’s most recent work at the Michigan Supreme Court resulted in the published decision in People v Gillis which involved the “felony-murder” rule. Flynn’s appellate practice is grounded in his service as a pre-hearing attorney for the Michigan Court of Appeals in Lansing, MI, and through five-years as an associate attorney in the appellate section of one of Michigan’s largest private law firms. Mr. Flynn also serves as an appellate mediator on issues of family law for the Michigan Court of Appeals. |
Flynn also was an Assistant Professor and Director of Legal Studies at the University of Detroit Mercy. He is published in the UDM Law Review with an article on civil rights claims in the law enforcement seizure context. He was instrumental in the development and delivery of an Internet-based pedagogy for legal assistants. Flynn trained paralegals in all aspects of assisting attorneys in the private firm context, publishing a comprehensive article on this subject in the Michigan Bar Journal. This experience serves Flynn’s present clients through his utilization of a highly-trained staff of paraprofessionals that effectively deliver timely legal services for a reasonable fee. |
Mr. Flynn is a member of the family and criminal law sections of both the State Bar of Michigan and the American Bar Association. He also is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association and serves as a member of the Citizens Alliance Committee, which is the advisory board for the Oakland County Probate and Circuit Courts. |
Mr. Flynn received his Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit in 1988 and his Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, in 1984. |
